Performance

Both Asus and Tp-link produce state-of-the-art routers currently available in the market. However, Asus and Tp-link are slightly different in terms of performance. Because while Tp-Link serves all kinds of consumers, Asus mostly serves performance-centric or gaming-focused consumers. As a result, we have found Asus standalone routers to be better than Tp-Link in the higher price category.

On the other hand, Tp-link concurs with the mid-budget and low-budget standalone router market in terms of performance and reliability.  Lastly, Asus is a new player in the mesh router category. So, Tp-Link is the absolute winner in terms of performance in the mesh router category. Because they have been making mesh routers for quite a time and their mesh routers are more powerful, stable, and reliable.

Range

The range is one of the most essential factors for choosing between routers. From my experience, both Tp-Link and Asus have been providing an excellent range in their routers. But in the general category, Tp-Link mostly provides a more stable connection and more range than Asus in the standalone router sector. However, Asus is the ultimate winner in the premium segment standalone router.

Yet, Tp-link has more routers in the mesh category and their mesh routers are one of the best in the market. So, Tp-Link will be the absolute winner in the mesh category.

App And Operating System

As I have mentioned before TP-link has one of the most simple and minimalistic apps and web interfaces. On the other hand, Asus does provide a good interface. But they are not as great as Tp-link.

Furthermore, both the Tp-Link Tether and Deco app work seamlessly together. On the contrary, Asus router apps are not stable and some of them are buggy.   So, Tp-link will get an upvote here.

Wireless Bands

The number of wireless bands also plays a vital role in the overall performance of your router. Both Tp-Link and Asus have single, dual, and Tri-band routers.

But the number of Asus tri-band router models is lower than Tp-link. Moreover, most tp-link tri-band routers are mesh. So, they are better than Asus.

However, I have tested the dual-band routers of both of the brands and in terms of stability, they are both great. So, I can’t complain.

The Number Of Internal Antennas

The number of internal antennas also affects the reliability of the connection. So, it’s an important feature as well.

Both Asus and Tp-Link provide 13 internal antennas in their higher-end model. But in the mid and lower-end models, Asus adds only 7 antennas.  As a result, Asus routers might be more reliable in the higher-end. But as a whole the TP-Link router does a better job.

Ports

For a greater internet experience, you must need a router with adequate ethernet ports. Because a wired connection always performs better than a wireless one.

Moreover, important or non-portable devices are suggested to have a wired connection for better performance. Both Asus and Tp-link provide a fair number of ports.  But as Asus focuses more on Gaming performance. So, Asus routers provide comparatively more ethernet and USB ports than Tp-link.

However, in most Tp-Link routers you will find at least 3-4 ethernet ports. That should be enough for regular usage.

CPU & RAM

To cope up with fast bandwidth and stable connection a powerful CPU and a good amount of RAM are a must. Tp-link and Asus both add powerful CPU and a good amount of RAM.

However, the low and mid-budget Asus routers are not great here. But their high-grade routers give TP-link a run for its life.  It might be a firmware issue that Asus mid and low and mid-budget routers don’t provide good CPU and RAM output.

On the other hand, almost all the  Tp-link models have stable CPU and RAM output.

Built-In Security Features

Built-in security and privacy features should be a priority in this age of cyber dominance. Because hacking and tracking have become a common issue. So, you should get a router with extra security features and Asus dominates here.

Because most Asus routers come with some sort of built-in security features. On the other hand, only the high-end models of Tp-link come with added security features.

However, the security features in Asus high-end models are subscription-based. On the contrary, the Tp-link router’s security features are free.

Advanced Features

Asus dominates in the advanced features sector too. As Asus is a performance and gaming-centric brand so they provide the most state-of-the-art features in their routers.

Though tp-link wins in the mesh category. But Asus provides the most advanced features in most of their routers.

Affordability

In terms of affordability, Tp-link is an absolute winner. They make the most value-for-money products in the entire router market.

Though Asus has some low and mid-budget routers. But in terms of price, features, and stability they are nowhere close to Tp-link routers.

These are some of the most important comparison factors between Tp Link Vs Asus Router.

By this time you might have gotten a hint of which one is best for you. However, for making your decision easier I am providing 2 short reviews of Asus and Tp-link routers here.

There is no better way to start this comparison without a comparison table. So, here is one short comparison table between Tp link vs Asus Router

From my perspective it has one of the most unique and eye-catchy designs  in the mid-range router category. The build quality seems premium. Moreover, it’s quite compact with 2.12 pounds weight.

Performance

To be frank, I have tested a handful of mid-tier routers and TP-Link WiFi 6 AX3000 is one of the most well-performed routers among them.

The most amazing feature of this router is the built-in cooling system. At this price point getting a router with a perfect cooling system is rare. As the cooling is great, the router can provide peak performance almost all the time.

Moreover, we have tested the speed, range, device connectivity, and signal reliability. To my surprise, almost all of these factors are great and as advertised. So, heads up to  TP-Link WiFi 6 AX3000.

Our Verdict On Asus Wifi 6 RT-Ax3000 Router

Design

RT-AX3000 has a simple and minimalistic design. It  has 4 adjustable antennas and 8 LEDs on the front to show different connection statuses. It’s quite handy with ‎8.82 x 6.06 x 6.3 inches and 2.67 pounds.

Performance

ASUS makes a lot of expensive high-end premium products. However, RT-AX3000 is an affordable product with all the high-end features.

I used the ASUS RT-AX3000 for quite some time in the studio. It didn’t disappoint me at all. Its strong wifi 6 technology has provided a stable connection for almost our 30 devices.

RT-AX3000’s smart security features amazed us the most. It can be considered enterprise-grade security for a family.  Moreover, this router’s USB 3.1 port is blazing fast.

We have tested its speed, range, device connectivity, reliability, and many more. The speed of  the ASUS RT-AX3000 is lightning fast. Furthermore,  it has performed well in all the factors except range. ASUS promised a 3000 sq ft range but it struggles after 2500 sq. ft.

Lastly, it would be better if it comes with some sort of built-in cooling system. Because it might be great. But we have noticed it heats up sometimes. As a result, it can not always deliver peak performance. This heating issue might also be related to a firmware issue.

Pros

  • Stable connection with great range.
  • Affordable price with reliable performance.
  • Aimesh feature and wifi 6 make it future-proof.
  • Strong enterprise grade-security features.
  • Comes with a blazing fast USB3.0 port.

Cons

  • Advertised 160 MHz has some stability issues
  • Does not support link aggregation.

Most Suitable For

Asus Wifi 6 RT-Ax3000 is a value for money product targeting mid-range consumers. So, it would be most suitable for mid-tier consumers.

Now let’s look at my verdict.

Verdict

So, which one is my favorite among Tp Link Vs Asus Router?

Well, frankly it won’t be fair to choose between them. Tp-Link produces all types of routers while Asus targets mostly gamers and high-end users. So, I can only suggest based on which type of user you are.

If you are a regular user or have a large home and love value for money products then go for a Tp-link standalone or mesh router.

On the other hand, if you are a gamer and seek only high performance from a router then go for Asus standalone router. But I would not suggest an Asus mesh router currently.

Lastly, if you are looking for a value for money mesh wifi system then I would undoubtedly suggest TP-Link Deco Mesh WiFi System

  2. I notice you emphasize the strength TP-Link has in the mid priced sector though using a comparison between the two AX3000 routers isn’t what I’d hoped. I’ve been researching the TP-Link AX1800 and am concerned about the build quality and features since I’ve been using Asus for years.

  3. Don’t know where you live so it might be different for you, but I’ve had both high and low end Asus routers and the Trend Micro Security features didn’t cost me anything. This is in the US.
