Linksys Vs Netgear Router-Which One Is Better In 2022

Linksys and Netgear are two of the most well-established brands in the consumer router sector. So, choosing between Linksys Vs Netgear can become pretty tough.

However, don’t worry. Because I have come up with the ultimate guideline for choosing between Linksys Vs Netgear.

Based on my years of experience with these brands and our review, I will compare both of the router brands on different criteria and compare 3 of their best models. So, you can choose which one is best suited for you.

Well, no. So now let’s dive deep into the topic and see the comparison between Linksys Vs Netgear Router based on criteria like performance, stability, reliability, etc.

In-Depth Comparison Between Linksys Vs Netgear Router

This part is completely based on my experience with both of the brands and customer reviews from different forums.

Moreover,  some information might not match with other reviewers. Because routers perform differently in different regions depending on the network and brands release different firmware depending on the regional needs.

Performance

Linksys and Netgear Router manufacture one of the best routers in the world. However, as different independent brands, they both have different perspectives on the performance of their routers. So, Linksys and Netgear Routers are slightly different in terms of performance.

Among them, Linksys serves almost all kinds of consumers. Moreover, they were previously owned by cisco. So, their proprietary networking technology is state of the art. So, for any price point, you don’t need to worry about the performance of Linksys routers.

On the other hand,  Netgear Routers serves a niche performance focus market. So, they are better at making high-performance stand-alone and mesh routers. These Netgear performance routers are one of the best for the buck. But their budget-friendly routers are not up to the mark.

Lastly, Linksys does not have as many mesh routers as Netgear and their models are comparatively new. So, Netgear beats Linksys easily in the mesh category.

Stability & Reliability

Network Stability and Reliability of the router depend on the CPU and RAM of the router. Because when devices get connected to a router that device uses a portion of the CPU and RAM of the router. The more devices get connected the more pressure the router gets. So, handling it would require a good CPU and RAM.

Both Linksys and Netgear Routes provide great CPU and a good amount of RAM with their performance routers. The case is also similar in mid-budget too.

However, Linksys uses snapdragon chips for all their routers and we all know how efficient snapdragon chips are. As a result, their low-budget routers are also reliable and keep up with stability.

But low budget Netgear routers are not as stable as Linksys because of their low-budget CPU and RAM.

Range

Range is one of the most essential factors for choosing between routers. Both Linksys and Netgear produce high-range routers.

Moreover from my testing, both of them provide close to advertised ranges. But Linksys standalone routers do not have advanced features like beamforming. As a result, they can not perform well with obstacles or thick walls.

You may Like long-range router for big house

On the other hand, in themes of mesh routers, Linksys has prevented this barrier. So, Both Linksys and Netgear mesh routers perform equally in terms of range.

User Interface

As mentioned in the comparison table, Linksys has simple and minimalistic apps and web interfaces. So, users can easily set up their routers and control them via the Linksys app.

However, Netgear’s multiple apps make users confused. Moreover, they are not really made for regular users. So, users find it really tough to set up and control Netgear routers via app. But those apps are great and have a lot of advanced features for geeks.

Lastly, both of the brands have some firmware issues. Linksys was great back in the days. But now the firmware issues are common for almost all of their models. Netgear also has similar issues.

Wireless Bands

Number of wireless bands also plays a vital role in the overall performance of your router. Both Linksys and Netgear have single, dual, and Tri-band routers.

However, the number of Linksys tri-band routers is comparatively low. They also do not have any standalone router that has a tri-band.  I have tested the dual-band routers of Linksys  and they are great. So, I can’t complain.

On the other hand, Netgear has a large number of standalone routers that provide tri-band. Though they are expensive. But believe me, their performance is outstanding.

Lastly, Linksys routers also don’t have tri-band in most of their mesh models.

Ethernet Ports

As a wired connection always performs better than a wireless one. So, no matter how good your router is it will always require a good number of ethernet ports for important devices.

Both Netgear and Linksys provide at least 3 ethernet ports in almost all of their standalone models.

But both of them do a pretty lousy job in their mesh models. They just provide one port. So, if you are planning to buy a mesh router from them then you might need to buy a switch too

Security Features

Security is one crucial factor to consider nowadays. Because as everything is going online, the number of digital crimes is also rising at an alarming rate.

Moreover, children are the most vulnerable to these crimes. So, having built-in security with parental control is a must.

In terms of security, Netgear routers are the absolute winner. Because they come with strong built-in security features. Though they are mostly subscription-based.

On the other hand, most Linksys routers do not come with added security features. They just have some basic level of security and parental control. But some of their higher-priced models come with extra build-in security.

Advanced Features

Netgear has always been providing a ton of advanced features with its routers. So, they are the absolute winner here.

On the other hand, Linksys provides advanced features only in their high-end standalone models.

But both of them add a lot of advanced features to the mesh models.

Customer Support

In terms of customer support Netgear and Linksys both do great. Their websites have a lot of troubleshooting methods, live chat, email, and contact numbers.

However, Netgear goes the extra mile here. On the Netgear website, you can search by model and troubleshoot accordingly.

Moreover, they provide free technical support for the first 90 days. If you face any problem a Netgear technician will come to your place and solve it for free.  But after 90 days you have to pay a subscription fee for this service.

Affordability

In terms of affordability, Linksys  is the absolute winner. They have all sorts of routers for all price points. They might have fewer features but they are more affordable and reliable in the low-budget and mid-budget segments.

However, in the premium market, Netgear provides great value for money. Because their products have more features and they perform great.

By now you might have realized which brand can be a better suit for you. But for your wellbeing, we are also comparing 3 of the best models of  Netgear and Linksys.
